Yet again, it appears that ITV will not show Qualifying live on their terrestrial channel, ITV1. Instead, they are showing a delayed broadcast over on ITV76 or something. (It’s actually ITV4, in case my sachasm wasn’t obvious!) It is delayed because the fourth channel in ITVs portfolio doesn’t start broadcasting until 6pm, and so it isn’t even going to be live.

Just 24 hours after the finish of the Canadian Grand Prix, and as the circus heads south to Indianapolis, news needs reporting and gossip needs starting!
The shock rumour coming from the Honda camp just prior to the F1 race in Montreal about Geoff Willis departing the team did not relent over the weekend. The team did it’s best to neither deny nor confirm this story, but it is likely that after Honda’s shake-up and the promotion of Shuhei Nakamoto to a position above Willis’, he has decided to leave. Although Nick Fry has said that Willis may make a return, the general media feeling is that Geoff will sit out the rest of the season while he considers is 2007 options.

Fernando Alonso has won the F1 Canadian Grand Prix in style at Montreal, leading from lap one through to the end. Michael Schumacher finished second, having passed Kimi Raikkonen in the final stages after the Finn ran wide at the hairpin. Alonso’s team mate Giancarlo Fisichella finished fourth after receiving a drive-thru penalty from a jump start. Fifth place went to Felipe Massa, who fended off Jarno Trulli and Nick Heidfeld. Local driver Jacques Villeneuve woud have finished in eighth but retired after trying to lap the ailing Toyota of Ralf Schumacher just a few laps from the end. Villeneuve came across the slow Schumacher and in trying to move around te outside, found himself on the dirty marbles from where he had no choice but to take his hands off the wheel and allow the car to hit the wall. This incident brought out the second safety car of the race, after which Coulthard passed Button to claim the final points-paying position.

Canada first hosted a Formula One Grand Prix back in 1967, initially in Ontario. Since then, the race has alternated between Ontario and Quebec, and in 1978, Montreal became the home of the Canadian Grand Prix. The circuits first winner was Quebec-resident Gilles Villeneuve, whom the circuit is now named after.
The race has taken place in Canada every year since its inception, 2004 being the closest it has come to cancellation. Following a similar fate of Spa Francorchmps in Belgium, the Canadian Grand Prix has strict tobacco advertising regulations, and it was this that contributed to the race initially being taken off the ‘04 calendar. However, funds were raised, and the race was re-instated.

I read on F1Fanatic recently that ITV will not be showing the Canadian Grand Prix qualifying live to UK F1 followers. This is, in my mind, shocking. But before going on a drawn-out diatribe, I thought I would wait until ITV admit what they have done, and today on their website, they did just this.
ITV F1 Website: News article titled “Watch the Canadian GP on ITV”
So qualifying is allowed to be watched by those who have the advantage of being able to get ITV4 - a non-terrestrial channel only available via a digital set-top box, or Cable or Sky or whatever…
…But ITV are showing it again at some unearthly hour of the morning for those who only get the basic channels.

Giancarlo Fisichella has re-signed to the Anglo-French F1 team Renault for another year, qwelling rumours that have been circling for many weeks about the Roman’s future.
It was suggested that Flavio Briatore was in a bind after his star driver - Fernando Alonso - decided to move to McLaren for 2007. However, Briatore is adament that he has made the correct decision in re-signing Giancarlo, and both parties are “extremely ‘appy” about it all.

The Canadian Grand Prix marks the halfway point in the 2006 Formula One season, and currently (after 8 rounds), Fernando Alonso is 23 points clear of Michael Schumacher, the Spaniards nearest rival. Is this margin too much for the multiple World Champion to overhaul, or will we see a second-half come-back from Ferrari?
Let’s take a look at last season, where Fernando’s and Renault’s dominance was relatively obvious from the first race, just as it was in Bahrain back in March of this year.

A day late, admitedly, but here none-the-less! Here is a quick round up of everything worthy of discussion following the British Grand Prix last weekend.
Fernando Alonso demonstrated true class at Silverstone winning convincingly from start to finish. His performance was very much in the style of Michael Schumacher’s back in the late nineties and early zeros. A completely dominant race which did make the grand prix somewhat boring, but at least Alonso showed how much it meant to him by giving a rather large grin on the podium. Schumacher has always been remarked as being jubilent after winning, but I fear Alonso is starting to takeover this mantle, particularly with his perculiar celebration antics after he gets out of the car!
